  • Overview

    General Expectations:

    The Escalation Tech-III is expected to be able to perform all the job functions & duties of the Process Tech-II position.  In addition, the Escalation Tech-III is the primary escalation point directly to the customer’s R&D integration engineers, R&D test owners and Quality product reliability engineers, to facilitate & resolve DET test issues & assist in root cause analysis of defects.  The Escalation Tech-III communicates directly with the customer’s engineers & contractor technical staff regarding the status of specific test requests.  A secondary function of the Escalation Tech-III is to receive special testing instructions from the test owners and subsequently setting up, carrying out and overseeing the special test.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Excellent communication in English, both in written and oral, and follow instructions.
    • Ability to read, understand, comprehend and provide feedback on DET test plans + special instructions provided by the Test Engineers, and the customer’s R&D integration engineers, R&D test owners and Quality product reliability engineers.
    • Required to assist in the training of Operator 1’s, Operator 3’s, Tester-1’s, Process Tech-II’s and ensure they are following test plans, guidelines, processes and procedures.
    • Leadership role for all lower scoped personnel in the DET test labs, and when requested, customer’s R&D test labs and design offices, and offsite work areas.
    • Provide feedback directly to the Test Engineers and R&D/Quality test owners for any DET test discrepancies, changes or suggested improvements.
    • Verify & compare test results to assist in defect/error characterization, and make appropriate entries into the appropriate databases (ALM) or defect report. Responsible for the work of lower level DET test operators, especially when working outside the DET test areas & offsite.
    • Perform routine computer/tooling maintenance to ensure test equipment is fully functional and maintain uptime of all tests. (e.g. – FW Reflash and changing software version.)
    • Able to understand and interpret written test plans and other documentation prepared by the Test Engineers, to run DET tests correctly. Includes serial logging setup.
    • Exhibits team leadership/supervisory skills and attributes.
    • Coordinates and facilitates test assignments with other Tech’s to ensure testing is up and running per priorities set by the Test Engineers.
    • Oversee the proper collection of all defect evidences gathered by the Testers, such as log files, screen shots, photo, video, sound clips, and physical samples.
    • Setup & run test scripts according to specific guidelines and procedures via DET test PC’s.
    • Responsible for Tester-1 regrader compliance and inspection accuracy.
    • Observe behavior & compare test results with predetermined parameters.
    • Collect and report test data using predetermined spreadsheets and applicable databases.
    • Maintain department logs, records, metrics, and procedures.
    • Attends meetings to update the Test Engineers and HP test owners regarding progress on specific DET test requests.
    • May require to work in an enclosed environmental chamber up to 40 hours/week, with temperature range from 60F to 90F & humidity range from 20% to 80% Relative Humidity.
    • Inform the Shift Lead or Site Operations Manager of any administrative issues.
    • Inform the Test Engineer or Test Owner of any process issues or product exceptions.
    • Collect & verify consumable supplies per test plan requirements.
    • Coordination of test assignments with other operators on their shift.
    • Complete shift handover with incoming Operators, using notes about all relevant information concerning their units under test.
    • Outside normal office hours, this position may be asked to assume supervisory responsibility of lower level staff (<20), in lieu of the shift lead, on an ad-hoc basis.

    Qualifications

    Position Qualifications:

    • Possesses thorough knowledge & understanding of all aspects of DET testing, such as Pen Health, 5-Corners, PPPL, Writing Systems, Mech-Life, FlexScript, GiKue, Edison, FW Reflash.
    • Must be computer literate.  Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook.  Ability to create tables and formulas in Excel.
    • Ability to troubleshooting & fix test units that may stop running.
    • Able to hear abnormal or distinct sounds/noises from the test units.
    • Team Player: Ability to work with others & maintain positive attitude.
    • Ability to understand & comprehend test procedures and instructions.
    • Able to multi-task and prioritize workflows as demanded by the work requirements.
    • Accurate & detailed oriented on repetitive tasks.  Attention to detail.
    • Basic math skills using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions & decimals.
    • Good judgment and decision making skills.  Must be punctual and dependable.
    • Ability to use hand tools (example: scissors, ruler, screwdrivers; infrequently) for simple printer assembly, disassembly, rework and repair.  Includes complex work such as electronic soldering. 
    • Capable of lifting up to 35 pounds unassisted.
    • Correctable vision to observe product and printed output defects.
    • Willingness to work a compressed work week or in different shifts. Overtime may be required.

     

    Education & Experience Required + Job Scoping:

    • Education: High school diploma or GED (General Educational Development) + some post-secondary education in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) field is required.  2-3 year diploma in a STEM field is preferred.
    • Work Experience: Minimum 12 months’ work experience as a Process Tech-II, which can be waived dependent on prior work experience, skillset, educational qualifications and industry standard certifications.
    • Job Scoping: Escalation Tech-III, fulfills the minimum expectations of this position.  Process Tech-II is the trainee level for the Escalation Tech-III position.
