    General Expectations:

    The primary role of the Climatics Lab Technician III is to assist the Test Engineers conducting Climatics Lab tests and to report findings to the Test Engineers so they can be documented and reported.   Familiarity with the Climatic test chambers is essential. Safety of both personnel and visitors is essential in this lab and a focus therein is expected of the Climatics Lab Technician III.  The Climatics Lab Technician III will have frequent interactions with HP R&D design and packaging engineers so good communication skills are important.  Familiarity with InkJet Systems is required.  The Technician III position works under the guidance of the Climatics Lab Test Engineer’s and HP Hardware Quality Engineering (HWQE) Technical staff.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Works under the technical direction of HP HWQE technical staff and Climatics Test Engineers.
    • The Climatics Lab Technician III is expected to run all climatic tests including Temperature/Humidity, Strife, BEST (Board Evaluation Stress Test), HALT (Highly Accelerated Lift Testing), Dust, and Altitude, as documented HP climatic test manual 5959-0545.
    • Responsible for collecting raw data and information to be used by the Test Engineers for submitting defects into the HP ALM defect tracking system.
    • Ability to work with engineers and other specialists to perform testing to regulatory requirements or specified requirements by HP HWQE EMC engineering staff.
    • Intermediate level ability to document, report and communicate all findings, data and observations related to testing both verbally and in written formats, to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Incumbent must be able to work independently with a minimum of supervision from HP engineering & technical staff, and contractor test engineers.
    • May performs some preventative maintenance procedures on the environmental chambers and other pertinent test apparatus in the climatic lab as required, minimizing down time and impact to client engineering teams.
    • Assist in troubleshooting Climatic lab equipment to minimize equipment downtime.
    • Update climatics test engineers on ongoing progress and issues to quickly identify and resolve any testing and process issues.


    Position Qualifications:

    • Ability & training to run the following climatic tests: Temperature, humidity, dew, dust, fiber track, altitude, strife, BEST, HALT.
    • Basic understanding of site environmental test Quality Standards, and the HP Climatic test manual, part number 5959-0545.
    • Knowledge of data logging and data logging devices commonly used in the environmental test lab.
    • Some working knowledge of test tools to drive products and send scripts (FlexTool, FlexScript, Python, etc.)
    • Disassembly/assembly of all printer product platforms for inspection.
    • Good verbal communications at various levels of the HP & service provider organizations.
    • Basic level of problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to listen to and follow instructions, ask for clarification as needed, express concerns, and offer ideas.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as process descriptions and procedure manuals, technical drawings and other technical documents.
    • Basic level knowledge of Climatic testing methodologies, tools and execution
    • Ability to operate test units when necessary to collect test data and verify solutions.
    • Attention to detail. Good written and report writing skills.
    • Ability to use hand tools to modify printer prototypes.
    • Good understanding of the operation and maintenance of all Environmental Lab test equipment.
    • Basic proficiency in computer business tools such as MS-Outlook, MS-Word and MS-Excel
    • Some experience in data capture & collection systems in an experimental lab environment.
    • Willingness to occasionally work a compressed work week, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays, to support the climatic lab equipment on evenings & weekends.



    Education & Experience Required + Job Scoping:

    • Education: 2 year STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Technical/college diploma (3 year preferred), is highly desirable.  On-the-job work experience and job skills training in lieu of a 2-Year college diploma is acceptable.  Minimum educational level expectation is a high school diploma or has passed GED (General Educational Development) examinations.
    • Work Experience: Minimum 2 years’ work experience at a Tester 1 / Technician II level in a product development test environment.  2 year work experience requirement can be waived/reduced depending on education qualifications, skillset, industry standard certifications or other related industry work experience.
    • Job Scoping: Technician III – Fulfills the minimum expectations of the Climatics Lab position.  Technician II – Trainee level for the Climatics Lab Technician III position.
