    General Expectations:

    The Climatic Lab Test Engineer II primary role is to conduct all Climatic Lab tests and thoroughly perform issue analysis during and after product exposure to conditions, report all findings as well as documenting and reporting product defects to client engineers.   Familiarity with all the test equipment in the lab and all test and defect planning and reporting software is essential.  Additionally, the Climatic lab Test Engineer II is responsible for first order troubleshooting and maintenance of all test equipment in the climatic lab as required. 

    Safety of both personnel and visitors is essential in this lab and a focus therein is expected of the Test Engineer II level.  The Test Engineer II will have frequent interactions with R&D design engineers, packaging engineers, as well as HWQ engineers and Product reliability engineers thus excellent communication skills are a critical aspect of the position.  Familiarity with InkJet Systems is required.  The Test Engineer II position works under the guidance of the Climatic Engineers in the HP Vancouver Climatic Lab.  It is expected that the Climatic Lab Test Engineer II will perform a leadership role for Test Engineer I’s, TechIII’s & TechII’s who may be temporarily assigned to the Climatic Lab.




    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Works under the technical direction of HP HWQE engineering staff.
    • The Climatic Lab Test Engineer II is expected to perform all climatic tests including Temperature/Humidity, Strife, BEST (Board Evaluation Stress Test), HALT (Highly Accelerated Lift Testing), Dust, and Altitude.  This includes the addition of specialized environmental, safety & RPL (Reliability Physics Lab) tests not outlined in standard benchmark procedures as directed by the HP HWQE engineering staff.
    • Provide Test Set-up and performs tests as documented HP climatic test manual 5959-0545.
    • Understands both product performance standards and specifications, and be able to apply that understanding to ensure proper operation of test apparatus to produce, analyze, and record the effects of actual and simulated conditions in Climatic test chambers/enclosures.
    • Responsible for submitting defects into the HP ALM defect tracking system.
    • Ability to work with engineers and other specialists to revise test plans and perform testing to regulatory requirements or specified requirements by HP HWQE EMC engineering staff.
    • Outstanding & expert level ability to document, report and communicate all findings, data and observations related to testing both verbally and in written formats, to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Analysis and interpretation of test results, and assists HP technical staff by suggesting testing solutions to reveal pertinent product weaknesses on prototype test samples as well as established designs.
    • Incumbent must be able to work independently with a minimum of supervision from HP engineering & technical staff.
    • Work closely with the HP HWQE to help manage, coordinate & support requirements requested by the assigned projects for all Chamber needs.
    • Work with HP HWQE to suggest chamber upgrades, repairs, PM’s, Calibrations, data collection and reporting.
    • Preventative maintenance, repairs & troubleshooting of Climatic Lab equipment:
      • Performs preventative maintenance procedures on the environmental chambers and other pertinent test apparatus in the climatic lab as required, minimizing down time and impact to client engineering teams. Performs actual PM’s on hand-in chambers.
      • Schedules walk-in chamber PM’s with outside services.
      • Able to troubleshoot Climatic lab equipment and implement necessary timely repairs or direct contracted chamber repair staff to the subsystem or part in need of repair. Minimizing Climatic Lab equipment downtime is imperative.
      • Respond to emergency chamber trouble issues in a timely manner, for all shifts, including evaluation, determine root cause and path to resolution.
    • Work closely with the HP HWQE in the development of processes and procedures used to benchmark prototype performance and ensure accurate execution of all test plans.
    • Update HP HWQE on ongoing progress and issues to quickly identify and resolve any testing and process issues.  When required escalate issues to management for resolution.
    • Mentor and train temporary assignments of Operators, Tester1’s, TechII’s, TechIII’s and TE1’s in Climatic Lab equipment processes & procedures, including all EH&S requirements.


    Education & Experience Required + Job Scoping:

    • Education: 4 year Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) is highly desirable.  2 year technical/college diploma (3 year preferred) is the minimum educational level expectation.
    • Work Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience at a Test Engineer 1 level, and +3 years’ overall work experience in a product development test environment.  Work experience requirements can be waived/reduced depending on education qualifications, skillset, industry standard certifications or other related industry work experience.
    • Job Scoping: Test Engineer II – Fulfills the minimum expectations of the Climatic Lab Position.  Test Engineer 1 – Trainee level for the Climatic Lab TE2 position.
